Chief Executive Officer & Founding Managing Partner
Howard Fischer began investing in convertible securities on a hedged basis in 1985. He founded Basso Capital Management in 1994 in partnership with a subsidiary of AIG, and is now the Chief Executive Officer of the firm. Howard chairs the firm's Investment Committee and focuses on risk management and strategy allocation. He also oversees the marketing and administrative processes of the firm and serves as the portfolio manager of Basso's dedicated SPAC fund.
Previously, he was the head trader and co-manager of the institutional convertible trading desk at Smith Barney with primary responsibilities in market making, new-issue pricing and proprietary trading. Prior to Smith Barney, Howard was a convertible trader at Drexel Burnham Lambert and at Cohen Feit & Company. Before his trading career, he was a Certified Public Accountant in both public and private practice.
Howard serves as CFO of the Board of Directors of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) and holds a B.S.E. in Accounting and Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In 2013 he was a fellow at Harvard’s Advanced Leadership Initiative.
